Press release - La reprise de la coopération française avec le Burundi affaiblit la position de l’Union européenne et remet en question l’engagement français pour les droits humains

Alors que depuis 2016, l’Union européenne (UE) a suspendu toute coopération directe avec le gouvernement du Burundi suite aux graves violations de droits humains commises dans le pays, la France a annoncé le 14 juillet dernier la reprise de sa coopération bilatérale avec le gouvernement du Burundi. EurAc s’inquiète particulièrement de l’allocation des fonds français au secteur militaire burundais, alors même que les forces de sécurité du pays sont pointées du doigt pour leur implication dans des graves violations des droits humains.

EU 2019-2024 legislature: calling on newly elected MEPs to promote democracy, human rights and the equitable use of natural resources in the DR Congo and in Rwanda

Within the post-electoral context of the European Union, the European Network for Central Africa (EurAc) publishes two memorandums on democracy, human rights and natural resources in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, aiming to provide newly elected MEPs with an overview of the main dynamics shaping the Great Lakes region and both countries, and to give new impetus on European policies towards the region.

In the post-electoral framework of the European Union, the European Network for Central Africa (EurAc) publishes its 2019 memorandum on democracy, human rights and natural resources in Rwanda, aiming to equip newly elected MEPs with an overview of the main dynamics shaping the Great Lakes region and the two countries and to instil new impetus on European policies towards the region.
