The Europe – Central Africa Network (EurAc), created in 2003, aims to support the Great Lakes region build a better future. EurAc carries out advocacy work for a strong, coherent and sustainable engagement by the European Union and its Member States integrated into a regional approach.
At present, EurAc gathers 33 European civil society organisations that work on and in the region and that support local civil society in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda in promoting peace and development, and in defending human rights.

As the European Union enters a new legislative cycle (2024-2029), the Europe-Central Africa network (EurAc) has prepared a memorandum together with recommendations to inform new EU decision-makers about the most pressing challenges affecting the Great Lakes in the three thematic areas.

In this policy brief, and in preparation for the upcoming negotiations concerning the new resolution on the withdrawal of MONUSCO, the Europe-Central Africa Network (EurAc) provides a comprehensive analysis of the main challenges associated with this withdrawal, as well as a series of recommendations aimed at ensuring a secure, gradual transition that is responsive to changes in the security context, in which civil society plays a crucial role.
